Boulder Opals

Boulder opal is often cut into unusual or free-form shapes due to the way it forms
The gems are always cut and polished with the strong natural host rock retained to form part of the gem
Similar to black opals, boulder can display vibrant play-of-colour ranging from bright blue-greens through to rare cherry reds

Coober Pedy

White Opals

Australia’s main source of white opal is mined in central South Australia in a place called Coober Pedy. It was given this name in 1920, derived from the Aboriginal words “Kupa Piti”, meaning boy’s waterhole
White opal ranges from a creamy white colour to crystal or translucent with bright pastel fire
It is sometimes referred to as light or milk opal
